News At-a-Glance

Nissan Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn took the CES stage on Thursday, January 5, 2017, to announce several advancements Nissan is making as part of its Intelligent Mobility blueprint for transforming how cars are driven, powered, and integrated into wider society. Highlights included:

  • Nissan’s Seamless Autonomous Mobility (SAM), developed from NASA technology, is a breakthrough innovation that will make it possible for more autonomous vehicles to be on the road sooner.

  • Nissan and leading Japanese internet company DeNA will begin tests aimed at developing driverless vehicles. The first phase of testing will begin this year in designated zones in Japan, with a focus on technology development. By 2020, Nissan and DeNA plan to expand the scope of their tests to include the commercial usage of driverless technology for mobility services in the Tokyo metropolitan area.

  • A new LEAF will be coming soon, equipped with Nissan’s ProPILOT autonomous drive technology.

  • The Renault-Nissan Alliance is partnering with Microsoft to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced connected vehicle technologies. As one example we will demonstrate the potential of Cortana, an in-vehicle virtual personal assistant, to make driving more productive and enjoyable.

  • Nissan is partnering with 100 Resilient Cities – pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation – to help cities plan and prepare for autonomous vehicles, electric cars and new mobility services.

Nissan Intelligent Mobility

The world is facing serious issues such as climate change, worsening traffic jams, accidents, and air pollution. On top of that, societies all around the world continue to struggle when it comes to relying less on fossil fuels and more on cleaner sources of renewable energy. As a responsible car manufacturer Nissan is committed to making transportation safer, smarter and more enjoyable, with an ultimate goal of achieving zero-emissions and zero-fatalities. Nissan will achieve this through ‘Nissan Intelligent Mobility’ – its roadmap for the future, but this journey didn’t just begin.

Guided by the vision of mobility for all, Nissan is democratizing many of these innovations by bringing them from luxury segments to compact high volume models and ensuring everyone has access to the benefits. Nissan is making cars exciting partners for its customers.

Nissan Intelligent Mobility encompasses three core areas of innovation that inspire how cars are powered, driven, and integrated into society.

Nissan Intelligent Driving gives customers more confidence through increased safety, control, and comfort for everyone on board. The building blocks for autonomous driving are already built into our cars with our extensive set of advanced safety features including Intelligent Around-View Monitor, Intelligent Lane Intervention, etc. Autonomous drive technologies can already be found in our vehicles today with the Nissan Serena being the first to feature our ProPILOT advanced driver assistance system – it’s not a pipedream stuck in product development. It’s happening now. At Nissan we have a clear roadmap for rolling this technology out to more models in Europe, Japan, China and the United States – with 10 models to be launched by 2020 by the Renault-Nissan Alliance.

Nissan Intelligent Power makes driving more exciting for customers by making it cleaner and more efficient. Nissan is committed to a holistic approach toward a zero- emission society, raising efficiency of internal combustion engines to the ultimate level and putting advanced technologies into Nissan EVs. Nissan continues to develop and advance a variety of powertrain technologies under Nissan Intelligent Power, which are most suitable to the different market segments and different regions across the world. Nissan has a diverse range of EV-based technologies in its portfolio. These technologies include electric vehicles, e-Power (series-hybrid) and fuel cell electric vehicles. Each new technology supplements the portfolio, but does not supplant other technologies.

Nissan Intelligent Integration keeps customers more connected by conveniently linking Nissan cars to the wider society. Nissan is helping to shape a sustainable ecosystem – from making cars interact with people, other cars and road infrastructure.  This approach will eventually lead to reduced traffic jams, more efficient car-sharing, remote vehicle operation and improved energy management

Nissan Intelligent Mobility is not about removing humans from the driving experience. Instead, it’s about building a better future for Nissan customers where cars are their partners, helping drivers to become more confident and more connected.
